Nutrition FACTS: Apple

The Apple has a rounded shape and it come from a tree that originated in central Asia, today, about 100 million tons of apples are grown worldwide, and China produces almost half of that total. The United States is the second largest producer with more than 6% and Turkey is the third.

Researchers from Cornell’s Food Science and Toxicology Department in Ithaca, N.Y., found that the antioxidant and anti-cancer properties of one fresh apple were equal to 1,500 milligrams of vitamin C.

Researchers think it’s better to get antioxidants from fruits and vegetables than from dietary supplements, ss many of the antioxidants in an apple are in the skin, which might have cancer-fighting properties.

Researches found that 50 milligrams of apple extracted from the skins decreased cancer cell growth by 43%, while the same amount of extract from the flesh of the apple decreased cancer cell growth by 29%. Likewise, 50 milligrams of extract from apples with the skin on decreased liver cancer cell growth by 57%, compared to 40% for samples extracted from apples without the skin.

Apples have a low sugar percentage which regulate the sugar level in our blood, and also it has fibre, which make you feel full for long time and may last for three hours until the next meal or snack.

Researches shows one apple a day could really keep the doctor away, It is due to it’s low glycemic index. It is recommended to have one apple before workout daily.

Apple intake:

Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) suggests that an apple of from 200 to 250 grams should be eaten daily, around 1 apple.
